Frizz doesn’t stand a chance against the strong hold and curl-activating properties of this silicone-free styling concentrate. Our natural formula not only resists humidity, but is reactivated by sweat and water, making this essential for frizz-prone curly and wavy hair.  Shine-enhancing botanicals, plant-derived proteins, and penetrating humectants deliver multi-day hair that can withstand the elements.   So put your hands in the hair and keep those curls where we can see them – this is a Hold Up™!

A silicone-free curl defining serum that softens and strengthens hair while offering strong hold and curl activation.

Fine to thick ‘wavys’ and ‘curlys’ who seek curl plumping, lift, and strong hold.

Quinoa Protein is a gluten-free source of eight essential acids that offer superior repair, hydration, and shine for the hair. Oat Protein plays a supporting role by penetrating the hair to deliver reduced breakage and enhanced softness. Click for a full list of ingredients.

Cucumber Mint.

Rake a small amount of serum through wet hair from roots to tips. (Note: we call it a ‘concentrate’ for a reason - a little goes a long way). To accentuate vertical lift, flip hair upside down and smooth product downwards, working from the crown to the ends of your hair. Allow hair to air dry or blow dry for extra volume.

To enhance in your natural curl pattern, apply Hold Up™ to wet, not damp, hair. Once you have achieved your desired style, avoid manipulating your hair until it is fully dry.

Because this product works by forming a film on the outside of the hair, we do not recommend it for low-porosity, tightly curled hair as this may lead to flaking and dullness. Instead, we recommend Just Gel™, which is non-flaking, softens hair and provides moderate hold.

  1. Stellar

Posted by Ranjan on 22nd Jul 2020

I got this in their trial size, and it's one of the best hair products ever. I love the extreme strong hold for my curls, it imparts a ton of shine. I don't at all mind the crunchy texture, though some might not care for it. Today, I tried it and mixed up some Hair Bling with it--so far so good. The Hair Bling softens the serum. Based on the texture of the product coming out of the bottle, I wasn't initially impressed (watery texture)--but it's a revelation when I worked it through damp/wet hair--when it dried naturally, the hold and curl retention astonishing. I'll likely be buying this and the Hair Bling in their full sizes.

  2. OM products are all great, but....

Posted by anna on 1st May 2020

this product was too heavy for my baby fine hair. I was light handed with it, but my hair still looked like hard ramen noodles. It would not scrunch out, even with a bit of oil. I was glad to wash that out of my hair. Nothing wrong with the product, just too heavy for my hair type.

  3. May Have Found my Holy Grail!

Posted by Heather A on 3rd Jan 2020

This product does what it says it will do; it helps with clumping, softening, and hold! It left my fine to medium, 2c/3a hair defined but natural looking. Not at all heavy or weighed down. A little goes a long way. A couple times I layered the Pop Life Volumizing Mousse over my top layer which gives some of my tougher spots just a little extra support. The two products interact well on my hair. While I can understand others concerns that the product is expensive I believe it will last a long time since you don't need a lot.

  4. did not work for my very fine hair

Posted by anna on 16th Nov 2019

I knew this might not work for my hair, so I cocktailed it with the mousse.
It still didn't work and I hardly used any of this serum at all. I assume it was from the serum and not the mousse. My hair felt very sticky and stringy. I think for the right hair type, it would be great, just not for fine hair. Sometimes you have to try hair products to find out what works!

  5. Amazing Definition

Posted by Stacie S. on 29th Jul 2019

Even in the humid summer air of DC, this product keeps my curls defined and non-frizzy. I'm a fan. It's expensive so I tried the trial size first....just ordered the regular.

  6. Amazing in arid, hot summers

Posted by Kendra Matthews on 13th Sep 2016

With the trial size Hold Up came a tiny sample of Hair Bling, which I tried with Hold Up the last couple of days, and pairing the two has been a game changer for me. Hair Bling protects my hair from getting dried out by the arid summer here, and Hold Up performs better layered over it. The crunch is much easier to scrunch out, and together they're coaxing out spirals I haven't seen in my hair since the humidity dropped.

    <3 Hooked.

  7. Soft & Defined Curls

Posted by Jessy Like on 11th May 2015

I love this stuff! The first time I tried it, I followed Rachel's suggestion to rinse out all of my conditioner and use the Hold Up serum alone. My curls were definitely more defined than when I just used gel, but still had a little more frizz than I like. The second time I used Hold Up with the Mane Tame frizz control, but in the wrong order (Mane Tame before Hold Up, when it should be the other way for me). I ended up with kind of stringy, not very cute curls. Third time's the charm though, and that time I left in a tiny bit of a leave-in conditioner, applied Hold Up to wet hair, and then scrunched in Mane Tame after plopping for a few minutes. The results are fantastic! I have just the right amount of frizz to give my thin hair some body and look fuller, but my curls are defined and soft. I absolutely love these products and would recommend them to anyone!

  8. Love it

Has great hold but not too crunchy when dry.

  9. Moxie Power

Posted by Karen Chuplis on 24th Jun 2014

Wow. I have weak wave which I can pump up some with stylers and gels. Even with the Hold Up alone I got nice wave. Pairing with another product I have VOOM! I could not be happier. It's a lightweight serum that also has hold. Very little needed. Don't be shy about trying it under OR over other products you like. Use it once alone so you see what it does and then keep going. When a 2a like me gets good 2b wave, you've found something great.
